Vehicle Fire Safety
If A Fire Breaks Out
- Stop the vehicle.
- Switch off the engine.
- Release bonnet BUT DO NOT OPEN!
- Get everyone out of vehicle.
- Get as far away from the vehicle as possible.
- Dial 999 or 112 and call the Fire Brigade.
- If safe to do so, attempt to extinguish the fire using a recommended fire extinguisher, dry powder or foam. Spray under the edge of the bonnet. If in doubt then leave it.
- Warn on-coming traffic without placing yourself in any danger.
- Never leave children unattended in the vehicle.
Safety Tips
- Check your vehicle at regular intervals.
- Never use heat, naked flames or welding equipment near fuel tanks or fuel feed pipes.
- Report any abandoned cars to the police.
- Keep a fire extinguisher in the boot of your car.
